GREAT WATCH!
I'm extremely impressed with the Casio SGW100. The watch colorway is attractive (black band, black casing, orange and navy highlights) and looks rugged and cool. This watch comes with lots of features, and if you're just a regular guy like me, you'll find that it does the job. I did read some comments about the face being a little difficult to read as it has a dark background, and I can see the problem some may have- although I don't find it to be a issue for me personally, I actually kinda dig it. The watch illuminates for about three seconds and that can help sometimes. The band is comfortable, but I seem to be in between two settings, one is just slightly large, the other is just a little too snug. This allows the watch to slide ever so slightly when I am active, but that's a wearer issue, not manufacturing. The compass and thermometer are neat functions. The thermometer does read your skin temp vs air and you would need to take the watch off for a few minutes to get what appears to be a fairly accurate temperature reading. I'm no advanced boy scout, but the compass also appears accurate after calibration. Plenty of alarm functions (if you really NEED one, most use their phone), stop watch, timer and World Time function. I have a friend that lives in Italy, and I leave the World Time function on "Rome"- one button push shows me the time where she lives. The watch is waterproof 200 meters, or 20BAR, whatever that nonsense means. I'm not a diver, but I do swim a fair amount, and "20BAR" is plenty waterproof. I definitely recommend for the "Average Joe" who would like a nice, attractive, sporty watch made by a quality company for a very reasonable price. At the $55-ish price point, this watch is well worth the purchase!

Updated/returned for SGW-100-1V instead
I own a few Casios and by far this may be my current favorite. It sports a good sized face (46.6mm NOT 51mm) and mineral glass. Water resistant to 20 Bar/660 feet. So shower proof, pool proof, surfing proof, and is Low and High temperature resistant! Built for the temperature range of -10 Celsius to 60 Celsius/14 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you own a Casio adjusting the settings becomes almost intuitive, for most other Casios. I found this one is particularly easy to navigate and set, even the compass calibration was a cinch. If you need additional visual assistance there are YouTube videos for this. Other users advise to manually re-calibrate it once a month for best accuracy. I didn’t have to calibrate the temperature - it was automatically correct. Yes remove it from your body for a few minutes then take the temperature for most accurate reading. The black out screen is a personal preference. In the daylight or in well lit rooms there is no problem reading the screen. In darker environments you need to hit the light for an assist often. This has the Casio basics: 5 independent alarms, 4 one time alarms and 1 snooze alarm, world time, stopwatch, daylight saving on/off, timer, 12/24 hr format, calendar displaying month/date/year and a MUTE option too. So no beeps! Another plus I haven’t seen on the other Casios is that the current time remains as a constant in the upper left hand where the date is on main screen. This way you know what the current time it regardless of what mode you are looking at including the world time mode. I found it to be pretty helpful so you don’t have to exit the stopwatch, timer, alarm or need to click out of world time to compare time difference. Only con I can think of is that the strap is different and I’ve read other people encounter issues attempting to switch it. Personally the band is good and fits well so I won’t worry about swapping the strap anytime soon. It uses a 3 yr CR2025 battery. The back light is set to about 2 seconds. If you use the backlight often know you will probably need to change the batter sooner than later but that’s not terrible either. Update 12/21/2025 As much as I loved the dark look I became frustrated with the need to constantly use the light in order to see anything on the face. I ended up returning it, in completely pristine condition for its next owner. I ordered the SGW-100-1V and it’s been such a visual improvement. I love the watch more now that I can simply just glance and know the time. I noticed on most new Casios if you look at the screen straight on it isn’t ideal, instead it’s clear if viewed on an angle. This watch is clear straight on and funky on an angle. Just an observation. This face is much easier to read especially if you dive or are in water.

Just fantastic watch. I bought a second one!
Utterly fantastic watch. That is hard to do!! After I had it for a month, I ordered a second one, still in its manila envelope. It comes in a big manila envelope that fits in your mailbox, so no box left on your doorstep. It is NOT solar or radio-controlled, but mine get off by ~4 seconds in six months!! It is comfortable, an almost impossible achievement for any watch. My Breitling Intruder is comfortable, but that is because Breitling, at those prices, pays attention to how a watch balances on your wrist, designs its bracelets so the watch and bracelet work together to be comfortable. Some of the big gun cheaper brands- you know who I mean- the big 3 names, will sell you a watch that is just annoying to wear, thinking you'll be dissatisfied and try again, and again. THIS sucker gets it right. It is incredibly comfortable. That's one reason I bought 2 of them. Some Casios with the dual level screen are dark, weirdly dark to read. NOT THIS. It is as contrasty as the best of the digitals. A huge plus with this watch is the buttons on the side. The G-shocks have them heavily recessed and hard as hell to push. OR a watch will have little round metal buttons that are hard to press. THIS WATCH GETS THAT RIGHT TOO. IT HAS 'FLIPPERS" FOR BUTTONS- VERY EASY AND COMFORTABLE TO PRESS. The other watch makers just cannot figure that out. No matter how long they sit around the big table playing with watches, they just can't figure it out. I have NEVER had one of these flippers accidentally get pushed. Never, so it works!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gee guys, its that hard to figure out? And how many of us are really piloting helos into the mtns of Afghanistan every day or Iraq or Syria where a mis-pushed button would spell death for all aboard? I like the green color on the dial. It is not quite as armored up as a G shock, but I have sort of hit it on the side of the gym locker putting my hand in, and no damage at all.. One little vulnerability it has is this: See that grey color on those two bulges of the case at 3 and 9 oclock? Well, that is grey PAINT on the plastic. I dropped mine on my sidewalk and that will scratch off. That is on the 9 oclock position on mine, and just tiny up near the top of the bulge, so on the "up wrist side" so nobody will ever see it. But you have to drop the watch on concrete to achieve that. That tiny scratch is so minor and un-apparent on mine, that I still will wear it anywhere and nobody, and I mean nobody, will ever see it. I'd wear it to Buck House or the WH, for sure. If I get elected President of the United States, I'll still wear it. As you cycle through the home page (local time) , which shows the date, and you go through world time (I leave mine set for the time in Paris), stopwatch (one hour and starts over), timer (24 hour count-down timer, useful as hell for timing parking meters, alarm ( I have never used this), and back to the home screen, through all of those you always see your local time shown. Some G shocks I believe cant do that, and people gripe. The one with the rectangular screen has that problem. Not this. You see your local time in all screens, and in the main screen, you see the date. It has a light, which I don't use much to save the battery, but I will use in a movie theater, and it has a compass for when you get lost in the Sierra, as people do every winter. Dammed accurate compass too. How accurate does it have to be to walk out of the Sierra? So there it is: This watch has it ALL. They actually got everything right, and the big "A" on-line seller charges $40 for it. Geez. 40! Buy it. You won't regret it. If you absolutely destroy it falling off a rock-face, you'll pay 40 to replace it. I'm wearing mine as I write this. Now off to the gym and I wear it there 3x a week. Big digits, easy to read at a glance, good looking, light weight, as comfortable as any watch I own, big, easy to push flippers on the sides, and dirt cheap. You can ask Rolex owners if they'd like to set their watch by yours. One guy on here said he's had his for four years and the batt. is still powering it. It is as close to the perfect watch as anybody has ever come up with. Am I communicating that I like it?

This watch is by far the best watch I've ever had by far because it has a nice large crystal clear display and it's easily the easiest to operate plus it has some very useful features from the time it self to the thermometer and compass, only issue I have is only minor because it's just having to calibrate the compass every so often but it's not too much of a inconvenience as you have to press the set button and then turn the watch around ensuring that the arrow is always pointing up, but still a tad frustrating to be fair, but to be honest with you i would use that feature if I was lost... lol As if that would happen to me 😉

I am writing this review after using it for last 7 days.I received the watch in 12 days from dispatch date. It was sent through ARAMEX courier , seller is from California. This model is not available in India. The packaging of Casio group is not at all impressive. Only a stand to keep the watch covered in paper box. In India, Casio watch comes in either hardy plastic box and for G-Shock in metal case. So I really don't find it impressive as it is a imported product , coming from USA. Now, about the watch: 1. Looks quite hardy and rugged one. 2. Illuminator light is great, the dial lights up in deep green and digit lights up separately in light green which creates contrast. 3. Made in China (Not thailand make) 4. Band is resin but I don't think its long lasting...let's see in coming years. 5. Band buckle is plastic made and not hardy one , I thought it would be in metal/steel like other company's watch or like Casio G-shock comes in resin band but the buckle is steel. Even cheap watch of timex provides metal buckle in resin band. But this band comes with plastic buckle and I handle it carefully (like not to wear it tight as during removal from wrist the buckle may break if u pull hard) 6. Time is showing accurate.World time and other basic features are good. 7. Alarm sound is a bit low than other casio watch. Snooze alarm function works great specially in morning when you find it quite challenging for waking up. 8. Now lets talk about the main features of the watch i.e.Digital compass and Temperature sensor : a. Digital compass is quite accurate. I checked it with my mobile compass too. No calibration is required. Don't calibrate it as soon as u get the watch. Check first with mobile compass or any other compass before calibration. b. Temperature sensor shows the body temperature so as many people said in previous review, you have to keep your watch open for sometime, then you may get correct temperature. But I can suggest you to subtract 3 to 4 degrees to get correct temperature when you are wearing it. Though it depends person to person for different body temperature but 3 to 4 degree is general.difference from correct temperature. 9. It is 200 meter water resistant and it really is.You can dip it in bucket of water or get into swimming pool. But don't operate the watch/press button as long as you are in water or your hand is wet. 10. Overall it's a good buy...the watch looks quite good and am satisfied. 11. no warranty in India/or outside USA but that's not an issue. I am using casio watches for last 5 years and I can say it does not malfunction within 1 year. It may shows up some problem after 3 years.
