Yes, as other reviews say, they do come scratched. If you are using them as color gels does that matter? No! This is a gel to color lights, not to put over a camera lens, so scratches don't effect the usability of the product. I love these gels. Very effective on my 500 LED panel (not quite wide enough, but they get the job done). I've cut them up before to use on 160 LED lights (cut to the right size and put it right behind the clear diffuser). Or cut it up and put it over a camera flash (I've used it on a Canon 580 ex, and 430 ex), just use some velcro wrapped around the flash head to keep it in place. Because the are 12inx12in it's plenty large enough to cut into a bunch of pieces for different uses. I'd knock off one star because the sticker label that comes on one of the gels, but for the price I can live with the pain to remove. I rubbed peanut butter into the glue to get it off (but it's too much work).

Great product at a great price. I love this company they really have good deals and I can't see why their equipment isn't just as good as anybody else's. Especially when photography equipment is so so expensive

They are smaller than it appears in the pictures but works fine. You can you make color effects with your speedlight flashes or small lights.

I purchased these gels for use in color washing walls for my client's corporate event. The mission was accomplished, but in the way in which I had planned. My gel holders were designed for 12" gels as these are advertised to be. Some of the gels were cut considerably shorter and needed to be gaffer taped in order to stay in place. Also, a few of the gels had runs in the color causing a slightly uneven saturation. The color runs did not adversely effect my project, but in other circumstances it might. The gels held up well over several hours of use over hot lights. However, the gels that were taped in place began to sag and warp. They are by no means ruined, they are just no longer flat. If the manufacturer took an extra few seconds in their cutting process, I would rate them at least four stars.

I have absolutely no experience with lighting but wanted to do an orange spotlight for Halloween. I had the spotlight already, and just combined the red and yellow gels over the light. It worked great, no problems with melted gels from the heat, and they still look like they'll last for lots more Halloweens. They were scratched some like the other reviewers said, but at least for my purpose, it made no difference.

I have never written a review before but I feel so strongly that this is such a worthless product that I will take the time to do so. The whole purpose of color gels is to change the color of the white lights in your par cans to colored light; very simple -- right? Well... these do not do that. They are so lightly colored that the human eye can barely decipher any color change at all in only the darkest colored gels, such as the red gel, which you can barely discern a vaguely pink tone emanating from when the light shines through. to make matters worse, THEY MELT AT A LOW TEMP!!! With standard par 36 lamps behind them, they began to MELT! Can you say Fire hazard?

I didn't notice any scratches, but then again, I bought these for a crafting project: to make a color viewer. They worked perfectly for our purposes. They're easy to cut to size and punch with a hole punch. I attached the colors together with a brass fastener, and when you glide them past each other, you make new colors! I'd have liked the red to be redder (it is more of a pink), but I've never worked with color correction gels, so maybe that's just the nature of them.

I bought these gels, specifically the orange, wanting to shift the color temperature of a flash (5600K) to tungsten (3000K to 3200K) to match the ambient indoor lighting. The overall affect was less than perfect. I later tried a more expensive CTO (Color Temperature Orange) gel and was much more pleased with the results. So, I think these gels could be used for creative mood lighting, but not for any accurate color correction. On another unrelated note, I'm generally very please with Cowboy Studio's products. They've always been very reasonably priced and work pretty well. This is my first disappointment with anything I've ever bought from them. And the gels were very cheap, so I'm not really all that bothered by this experience and I would buy from them again in the future.
