A difficult read but brilliantly written

Having looked at the preview of the book, I bought this specially because it had footnotes to help with the comprehension of the french, which I thought was ideal for improving my understanding, given it is a full length novel. I was then extremely disappointed when it arrived to find no such notes in the book. The preview is misleading and an inappropriate representation of the book, which may be wrongly appealing to students looking to improve their french. If you do make the mistake of buying it, you will receive simply a copy of Laye's text which could be bought for a cheaper price elsewhere.
