Best Exercise Bike for Tall People - Tall Review
I’m am a taller guy at 6’2” and was looking for a sit down exercise bike that actually works for taller people. After searching everywhere and reading way too many reviews, I finally took a chance on the Marcy ME-709 Recumbent Exercise Bike. Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. This bike is a perfect fit for me and I’m confident it would work for anyone up to 6’7” or even 6’8” (See Video). What really stands out is how comfortable it is to ride being tall. A lot of exercise bikes don’t leave enough leg room for taller riders, but this one gives me full extension without feeling cramped. The seat is supportive, the backrest makes it easy on my lower back, and the pedals are well positioned. Setup was easy and I had it put together in under an hour with no problems. It’s also completely silent when riding, so I can use it early in the morning or late at night without disturbing anyone (3rd floor apartment). The bike is compact too, not taking up much space, which is a big plus. Other reasons I recommend the Marcy ME-709: Adjustable resistance so you can go from an easy spin to a harder workout Sturdy build that feels solid, even at my height Clear display for time, speed, distance, and calories Affordable price compared to other sit down exercise bikes (The best price and value from over a month of searching) If you’re a taller person looking for a sit down exercise bike, the Marcy ME-709 is absolutely worth it. Easy to assemble, quiet, comfortable, and with plenty of room for long legs, it checks every box I was looking for.

Affordable High Quality Recumbent Bike!
Long review, please read to the end of you're thinking about buying one of these bikes: So, just purchased this bike. I know it well as this one is replacing the same bike I purchased back in April 2013! The old one got heavily used over the past decade, in fact I flipped the Odometer 4 times! The bike was a big help to me as during that time I lost a total of 160lbs, the first 100lbs was by adjusting my diet alone after a while I plateaued, and it was recommended to me to add some cardio workouts to my life. I'm not into too going to the gym so I opted for at home equipment. This bike was what I selected and it really helped me to breakthrough and lose another 60lbs. I continued to use it on and off over the years. The old one still works, however the seat bracket cracked, seat is still on its just loose. Unfortunately, I gained back a good portion of the weight and being 10 years older in my late 50s now I've opted for weight loss surgery. That being said, I was advised once again to have some post surgery activities lined up, ones that I enjoy. I didn't give it a second thought, I hopped on Amazon, shopped some other brands and styles and settled on the Marcy ME709 for a second time! I mean, I used the crap out of the first one with no issues, the price was only slightly higher. So here I am 10 years later with a brand new one! It's virtually the same, they did upgrade the computer, it's easier to reset and the digits have a cool green glow now versus the LCD style the old one had. If you're on the fence buy this bike!!! It is super durable, great quality and very affordable, and not hard to assemble. Shout out to the Marcy Fitness folks, thank you for still making these available!

this is a pretty good piece of home exercise equipment
I am an experienced cyclist who rides for pleasure and for commuting every week on a real outdoor road bike. I also use indoor cycles at the gym and bought this to see if I could get some of my workouts at home. For the low price, this is a pretty good piece of home exercise equipment. The bike was reasonably simple to assemble in 40 minutes or so, it feels pretty solid when you sit on it, and the seat heights are adjustable enough to fit me as well as my 6'2" husband. The position of the seat almost directly overtop of the pedals is more ergonomic than some exercise bikes that put the pedals too far forward and strain the back. It is also completely silent. Easy to ride while watching netflix. ;) I can work up a good sweat at setting 6 in about 20 minutes, and keep it going for as long as I want. Note: If you are not a biker, you will think the seat is uncomfortable the first time you use it. If you use it regularly your muscles will get used to it, and you won't even feel it anymore. This is the case with all bike seats. The more you use, the less uncomfortable they feel. An incentive to keep up with it! 3 small complaints I have: 1) I'm 5'8" with long legs, a shorter torso, and long arms, and I find that the handlebars are way too low down for my liking. The low handles force you to bend forward farther than I want to, and I don't find the position natural from my experience on real road/racing bikes. You have to be careful not to round your lower back because of this constant bend. When I have been on the bike for more than 30 minutes, the position of the handlebars can sometimes become pretty annoying, and I find myself switching between all the hand positions as well as putting my hands on the tops of the handle ends in an attempt to elevate my torso a little (not designed for this). 2) The resistance of the pedals isn't the same all the way around the arc. I find that I have to push harder at some points around the circle the pedals make as they move, and if I keep pushing the same as I go around, other parts of the arc feel too easy and the pedal sort of slips forward until it hits the next hard part of the circle. It takes a bit of time to get used to this, but now that I am, I don't notice it much any more. Just still wish it was a smooth circle of even resistance. 3) The bike rocks a bit as you pedal. It's very slight, and you can change the footing a little by adjusting the end caps on the feet, but I still find that it's a teeny bit unsteady. On our wood floors this causes squeaking as the weight shifts minutely. It's not enough of a problem that I don't want to use the bike though, so overall still 4 stars. Might just depend on your floor.

Great exercise bike if you have the right expectation and usage
I am a male in my late 20s. I'm about 5'9" and 160lbs. I ride a real bike regularly (when the weather permits) for distances around 30+ miles. (Nighttime riding into and around NYC and then back to the burbs) That course includes some steep uphills and having to pedal for your life to get away from cars. As the winter weather (slowly) started I wanted something I can fit in the house and is affordable. To get it out of the way.. there is NO WAY this bike has enough resistance. I can overpower the 'magnetic resistance' on its highest setting and make it feel like the pedals 'skip' instead of providing smooth resistance. But resistance from the pedals isn't the only way to get a good exercise. You can get an excellent exercise from pedal speed. I usually leave it at '3' while changing pedaling speed and then putting it to higher resistance periodically (almost like interval training) You can get as hard of a workout as you want with your pedaling speed (I can get this sucker reading out past 40mph at my highest effort... which makes me doubt any of the readouts other than the time) It's also really really quiet. (even at 'top speed') The bike itself is actually well designed, the handlebars give you a variety of options for extended rides. The seat is actually pretty comfortable (if you're at all used to riding bikes). They spend enough effort to actually give you a channeled groove in the center to relieve pressure in 'that area' It also has a very small footprint. I've so far used the bike for about month and it's not showing any indication that it will fail on me soon. The assembly is about as easy as I expected and took all of 20 minutes. (I did struggle a little bit attaching the cable for the resistance adjustment) It's not going to replicate hill climbing type of effort and it doesn't exactly FEEL like you're riding a real bike, but for the money you pay and for all the pros, it's hard to go wrong with the bike. At the price point it's really hard to even point out any cons... err.. I don't like orange on the plastic shroud? Wait, no... I do. ***Update 5/30/12*** I'm going to update the rating to 5 stars. The bike as seen less and less use since the weather's been getting warmer, but it's holding up very well. Even with fairly regular use nothing broke, and there's no squeaks or rattles to speak of. I'm very impressed with how well it held up so far and expect the bike to hold up (mainly as a coat hanger until this winter) and provide its service when called upon (and beyond) --- I also want to RE-emphasize how SILENT it is even at FULL SPEED, I don't have to adjust the TV volume at all while riding and even late night I don't have to worry about making too much noise. --- Still liking that orange shroud =)

Perfect Exercise Bike on a Budget!
** EXCELLENT bike for the cost! I had been looking into buying an exercise bike for a couple of months, but I couldn't decide on which one! I saw that the Marcy Mag Cycle was only $125 on Amazon. I made sure to read as many reviews as I could because I thought the price was way too low. After reading reviews on Amazon and on other websites, I was confident that this bike was the right choice. I ordered it for $125, and the VERY NEXT DAY, the price went up to $200!!!! Now, it's $150. I bought it at the right time, lucky me! I have Amazon Prime, so I ordered it with the free 2-day shipping. It arrived at my house 2-3 weeks later, but earlier than the original expected delivery date. The packaging was fine, no problems. Unwrapping everything was a pain, but easily doable. Assembly: I am a 23 year old female, 120 pounds, and I was able to assemble this BY MYSELF. REPEAT: BY MYSELF. The directions recommend having 2 people assemble it, but I did it without a problem in 2 hours. I could have done it more quickly, BUT there was something wrong with one part - the computer wire was too short, so I had to literally manipulate this one part with a wrench. It's hard to explain without pictures, but let's just say whoever made that part did a horrible job. It made the assembly take 30 minutes longer than it should have. Despite all this, everything works fine. Exercise: -I started sweating after 10 minutes on Setting 2!!! One thing I was worried about when purchasing this bike was the level of resistance. I wondered if the resistance levels would be enough to give me a good workout. I couldn't believe how great the resistance on this bike is!!! At the gym, I would do Level 3-4, but on this bike, I break a sweat on Level 2... and then I change it to Level 3 when I want to work even harder. -This isn't the sturdiest bike ever... as in the front of the bike moves from side to side A BIT when I'm using it, but this may be because I'm using it on carpet. -This bike is SUPER SUPER QUIET. I watch TV while on it, and no one is disturbed or annoyed by that (except maybe by my panting). I LOOOOVE the lack of noise coming from the bike. "Computer:" -I keep it on the time setting. I don't trust the calories lost setting, so I never look at it. Distance is also a useful setting. -I noticed that when you stop pedaling, it takes 2-3 seconds for the clock to pause. I think it's very handy that the timer knows when to pause. People on the Bike: -My dad (5'9"), my mom (5'3"), and I (5'4") have no problem using this bike comfortably. My sister (5'2") cannot use it comfortably due to her height. She has to scoot forward in the seat, which makes it difficult to remain comfortable. -My dad tried Resistance 6 or 7 and quickly changed to Level 3. This shows you how awesome the resistance is. OVERALL THOUGHTS: -YES, I recommend this product to anyone on a budget. For less than $200, this is seriously a steal!! I hope this bike lasts a long time because I love it.

Great exercise bike for what it is.
Pretty good exercise bike. We have a small place, so our first need was compact. It is that. It would be nice if it folded up, but was not a requirement. My wife and I need something to use at home when we don't have time to get out for a fast walk in the area, also, something we could do while watching TV....I know some may be thinking....hey why not.... We don't watch it much, but we do try to get one show in a night to just relax, as my wifes work (teacher) comes home with her....for both of us - marry a teacher, be ready to grade papers. anyway.... After reading a number of reviews, the biggest review seemed to be the resistance. Since our objective is not bike training to climb hills, but in getting our heart rate up with resistance, I was hoping this would do the trick - think treadmill on a bike. We can walk at 5mph up and down rather steep roads for a hour, winded somewhat, but we can talk while doing it (to set our ability for below). I saw one person noted how to set the resistance...this is really misleading, as you can't really change the resistance of the unit this way, but if you don't adjust to the lower position as their pictures indicated, you will have limited range of adjustability - 1 thru 9 I believe. If the adjustment is wrong, the first few settings do not do anything, so setting 1 becomes 1 thru 4 (for example), when assembled (ours was correct out of the box), the connection should be doable, but not easy either. We find the resistance is actually quite good. Though I should note, I didn't think so at first. <1min, and 9 doesn't seem like much. after 10min, 4 is about right for us, for now. Again, heart rate for us, not strength, though I should note, our first time after 15min at 4, and I could feel it in my legs. We only paid ~$100 with shipping, so even if this turns out to need replacing later, it was still a deal. Very quite, can barely hear it if you listen closely. If louder than a whisper, something might be wrong with the unit. Assembly: Fairly easy, all the tools were supplied. I was not dedicated to timing myself and did not assemble in at one time, maybe an hours worth, maybe less, if done all at once. Lots of packing material to open and remove. Reasonably light weight when assembled, front? legs actually roll, so moving it is easy. Packed up as delivered, the box is oversized and heavy, based on shape and weight distribution. i.e. some may require a second person to get it into the house for assembly. There is no hand hold for carrying, and have not attempted to since I assembled it. Handles, as some have noted, are a bit of an odd location/feel. We bought the gel seat pad right off, so can't say how comfortable the orig seat is, but it is stiff foam. Computer: The electronic gadget is nice, gives some readout on how far, cal burned, time of exercise, etc. ok, nice and mileage/calories is subjective, timer is probably the most nice to have. As you can reset it to zero when you want, but can use it as a cumulative counter, say if you break up your exercise into a couple sessions, or total for the week. nice feature, is that it turns on and off with the use of the bike, so you don't have to worry about it. Durability/stability: It appears to be fairly durable. Fairly beefed up metal construction and bolts. mag part has a plastic housing, but it really only covers the unit. Rest is metal metal metal. Stability might be subjective. Its good, not great. If the seat is too high at the lowest setting, and a one is a bit big, it might have a tendency to tip while getting on/off - only guessing hear. We have not had it fall over, or come close. It also sits on a rug, which will have some give, but the base is not exactly huge either. Something to keep in mind, but not something that would prevent me from buying the unit. We have had it for a month, and overall we are very pleased with it.

Marcy Recumbent Mag Cycle
On balance, I have been very pleased with this product. It is incredibly quiet and very well built. The only problem I have had was in the assembly, "Step 1." The design calls for the rear portion of the frame to slip into the front part of the frame. As designed, the two parts are supposed to slip together, with a knob that is supposed to pull up so that you can easily adjust the distance between the seat and the pedals to fit your height and the length of your legs. To tighten the joint between the two frame pieces, there is a plastic sleeve in the front piece of the frame that the back piece is supposed to slide into, reducing the anular space between the assembled pieces and firming up the joint. On my bike, the plastic sleeve was a shade too thick (or a hair misshapen) which precluded the two pieces from easily sliding together. In order to put the pieces together it was necessary to completly remove the adjustment knob, insert the back piece into the front piece as far as it would go (not very far), and then pound the back piece into the front piece with a five-pound rubber mallet until the appropriate length was obtained and the holes lined up so that the adjustment knob could be replaced. After this problem was overcome the rest of the assembly went very smoothly. Although the distance between between the seat and pedals is not "easily adjustible" without the mallet, that is not important to me because I am the only person who uses or will be using the bike. Other than this one, now inconsequential, assemby problem, the bike has performed flawlessly. It is very solid, steady and well put together. It is also incredibly quiet and well balanced. The resistance adjustment works the way it is supporsed to, providing progressive resistance to promote either a cardio workout and endurance or strength impovement and endurance. I can't really comment extensively on the "computer" other than to say that it seems to work the way it's supposed to. I don't really pay attention to the computer. I use my watch to time my workouts, and I set the resistance by "feel" to accomplish the purpose I am looking for. All-in-all, I think this is a very good product, especially for the price. I really have no need for all the bells and whistles on the more expensive bikes from other manufacturers. I do wish, however, that Marcy would improve its quality control on that plastic sleeve insert. It would seem to be a simple matter to make sure the two frame pieces actually slide together easily before the bike leaves the plant. That's the only reason I gave this product four stars instead of five.

5 STAR
I had been searching for a good, solid recumbent bike for a long time. The problem? I don't have abundant space or a large budget. I also needed something that I could easily move around on a daily basis. Found this on Amazon and could not be happier. What I Like: - Super affordable - High weight limit (near 300lbs i believe). Almost every bike in this class had a much lower weight limit and for me that means a chincy bike. I'm no where near 300lbs, but I wanted something stable that wouldn't feel like it was going to bust apart by cycling at a high speed. This bike gets the job done. - Low Profile, it is fairly low to the ground meaning it isnt an eye sore and is easy to hide when company is visiting. - Weight, it feels around 50 or 60 lbs but is very easy to move around and has glider "wheels" on the front support bar if you need it. - Overall value, I looked at bikes around $300 which did not match up this bike (for m.y needs and budget) What i do not like: - Lack of high tension settings. You have eight tension levels to bike on, I feel that only 6 through 8 give me any sort of challenge. I'd rather they do away with some of the lower tension settings and add a few higher ones. - No programs. Unlike higher end bikes, the "computer" on this bike only counts your time, speed, distance per session, calories burned and total distance lifetime. It has no "weight loss" or "mountain" programs that automatically change the tension for you like on higher end bikes. Now, I knew this going in and I happily saved the few hundred dollars by not getting a "program bike" but it still is a draw back if you don't like the idea of switching tensions yourself. I switch the tensions to create my own programs, but it can be nuisance. If your budget is low for a bike, leave the program features out. - Inaccurate calorie count. I disregard this feature as it does not seem to be accurate at all, it will say i've burned 50 calories after an hour of biking (regardless of if i bike the whole hour in gear 1 or gear 8. Since i'm working much harder on gear 8, i should be burning more calories). - Seat. The arm rests are kind of at a weird level (may just be me, i am a taller guy). And the seat does not have as much padding as some of the more expensive bikes but it isn't uncomfortable, just less comfortable than other more expensive bikes. Overall, I recommend this product if you are on a budget, don't have a lot of room, need something light and easy to assemble. It is a winner in those categories and I do not regret my purchase one iota. The bike has helped me achieve my fitness goals and for that I am happy.

Buen producto

Excellent, solid bike good for rehab
This bike is ideal for me. Post-stroke it's got the ideal tension for me to rehab with. It's easier for me to get on as no real leg lifting is needed and I can get my foot into the pedals. It was delivered very quickly and I would definitely recommend. My husband says the bike was straight forward to build - not as easy as putting up a shelf - but good that it's not.

A great recumbent bike for those on a budget, a senior or recovering from surgery or injury.
What really impressed me as I unboxed and assembled the bike - was just how well built it was - very solid. The instructions were okay but I suggest watching a You Tube video on assembling this bike. The computer monitor really did need some suggestions of how to insert the wiring. With the help of You Tube...it went quickly. Once on the bike - it felt sturdy....a few tweaks and bolt tightening removed any movement. The flywheel is particularly smooth and I felt no difference from much more expensive fitness centre bikes. The monitor is basic - but provides most of what you need to know during a workout. (time, calories, distance, speed etc.). There is no holder for a phone or tablet....but that I imagine could be added to the post at some point. The adjustment for leg length is manual and a bit stiff but not something you are doing continuously so not an issue. What IS important is you can be over 6 FT and be comfortable as well as just over 5 FT! Having just had hip surgery and unable yet to ride an upright bike....the Marcy really has permitted me to "get back in the saddle" and get some aerobic activity and leg muscle strengthening. There are 8 resistance levels which is enough for a decent workout. Those looking for a "professional" type bike will need to spend more but for anyone looking for a well constructed and quiet recumbent bike at home....the Marcy MC-709 should be more than adequate. Recumbent bike reviews on You Tube and online have recommended this as a good budget bike for several years now and for good reason. (I did not receive any payment for this review).
