Stiff but necessarily so.
I bought this for my husband, because he snores very badly and I suspect he has some light sleep apnea as well (just judging from the noises he makes when he's flat on his back at night), and recurring sciatic pain. He had been piling up pillows to try to prop himself up, but he often would roll off or slid down and I'd have to wake him up to move back. This seems to do the job wonderfully. It is a bit stiff, but I think it has to be in order to be adequately supportive. He puts a thin down pillow over it for comfort and has slept better this past week in using it than he has in all the years of our marriage. He's able to breathe easily and doesn't wake himself up or toss and turn in the night. The height is the perfect angle for him (I also bought a 7 1/2 " one which really isn't high enough). I'm so pleased I found this product, as I really think it's improved his overall quality of sleep (as well as mine, no more snoring!).

What a great product
I am disabled so I spend a lot of time on my back watching TV. I was having severe neck pain from my shoulders not being supported all the time. Using 5 pillows to prop me up is cozy and comfortable, but it never gives proper support. I have now been using this for a month or better and man I have to tell you even if you don't have neck pain yet, buy one of these so you will never have to know that horrible disk pain that comes from poor posture over time. I don't use it to sleep, I just use it on the couch and in bed watching TV. It is absolutely the perfect product, it is very firm so your spinal column doesn't sink. Honestly I have two regrets, one that I didn't buy this sooner and two that I didn't buy two of them because I'm constantly lugging it up and down the stairs, lol. Also, the dimensions are perfect for comfort too, not too low so you have to bend your neck and not too high so it prevents relaxation. If your on the fence, trust me take the plunge this is a wonderful product.

Exactly What I Needed
I have rheumatoid arthritis and severe respiratory allergies. This is an extremely severe allergy season, and I began to have my bronchial tubes closing too much at night. Time for action. That used to happen when I was overweight, and I had a bed wedge then. But I have a memory foam mattress now, and then I did not have that type. I used to flip around over and over, because the joints would hurt so badly. On the memory foam mattress I sleep on my back and it works great at stopping the arthritis pain so I can sleep. Back when I used to flip over so much and sleep so much on my sides, the bed wedge would sometimes bother my neck by bending it too much. Now that I sleep on my back, that no longer happens. On the bed wedge, my neck is nice and straight. I tried with a pillow first, and then without one. For my purposes, sleeping with my head very near the top of the wedge, sleeping without a pillow gives me the best airway. In fact, it gives me a great airway. I've been sleeping great. I've been trying to persuade my hubby to get a bed wedge, because I think he would absolutely love it. The cover on this is nice, but I wanted something over that. I called the company, and they no longer make the additional cover they used to sell. So I have an old part of a bed sheet folded around it, and that is fine. Old bed sheets have lots of uses! Also, every day I comb out my assistance/service dog's coat all over. He is a Standard Poodle, and it takes an hour or so. I turn the bed wedge upwards, and my gracious, what a fabulous support it is for me when sitting on the bed and him across my lap for combing. Once a month I spend about three hours on trimming him, and it sure will be welcome for that, too!

Seller (Medical Department Stores) does not honor return policy. Make sure you REALLY want this before purchasing.
I ordered 2 of these wedge pillows, each coming in a separate and sealed box. I opened one item, tried it, and did not like it at all. I contacted the seller thru Amazon to return the second (and still sealed) package. The seller refused my request stating that: "Medical Department Stores has closed the return request listed below. Reason for the closure of your request: Health and Personal Care products (cholesterol monitors, glucose monitors, fragrances, thermometry etc.) cannot be returned However, in the product's listing that you see when you actually commit to purchasing, it states: "For hygienic reasons and all our customers health and safety pillows/wedges are non-returnable and non-refundable once removed from sealed packaging." That statement should allow me to return the second pillow, but they obviously don't honor their own words. STAY AWAY FROM MEDICAL DEPARTMENT STORES!

Great Medical Aid for Sinus Surgery and be required to sleep/ stay upright while healing
I see others are having much more fun with their wedge pillow than I did... but I needed it as a medical aid after surgery - and was very glad I had it. After sinus surgery, I was instructed to sleep sitting up or in a recliner for several weeks. Well... we don't own a recliner so I bought this in hopes it would be a suitable - and make my recovery easier. This pillow worked well for what I needed. It just isn't natural to sleep sitting up so it wasn't comfortable - but NECESSARY. It DID help keep me more mindful of maintaining an upright position. It was also great when I was awake and wanted to read. I did not bother finding a special pillow case for it (it comes with a thin washable cover.). I simply wrapped it in a fitted sheet after my surgery to prevent it from getting stained or dirty. I changed the 'wrap' every day and managed to keep the pillow clean. If you need it for surgery or medical purposes, this pillow held up well. It remained firm (too firm maybe) and suited the purpose which it was intended. Annnnnnd... based on other reviews, you may be able to find other uses for it down the road. ;) I actually gave mine to someone that was also having face surgery so mine seems destined to live a life of medical use.
