A young boy describes himself as "loud as a lion," "quiet as a clam," "tough as a rhino," and "gentle as a lamb" Review: Lovely book. - Beautiful illustration and wonderful Story! Review: Beautiful illustrations - I have purchased this book for several of my preschool-primary elementary-grandchildren. Older siblings and adults like it, too. The illustrations are beautiful images of animals , each naming a common emotion that children experience. It opens up space to name, feel, and talk about feelings. It is one of the best-illustrated children's book I have found. I never tire of reading it to the kids.

A definite must for little ones!!
This book, "Quick as a Cricket" is a MUST, along with The Little Mouse, The Red Ripe Strawberry, and The Big Hungry Bear also by Don & Audrey Woods. These titles have been in my library since my children were toddlers (now in their late 20's), and I buy them as a baby gift anytime a friend is having their first baby or grand baby. Both titles absolutely captivate the children, from as early as 10 mos on. (You have to get the hard copy, the pictures are GORGEOUS, so you'll want the full effect). Without fail I have heard back from everyone that these are their child's favorite books (with "The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry and the Big Hungry Bear" coming in first). These even stop my now 13 1/2 mos old grand son in his tracks (who stops for nothing and has been on the RUN ever since he started walking at 9mos) - He even gets these books out himself and plops down in mom's lap to read - my daughter, even though these were her favorites too, is absolutely AMAZED at the effect they have on her little Hurricane! You can't go wrong with either of these books! Remember to get the hard copies, not the board books or paperbacks.

Timeless Classic, Kid-Approved
This remains a beloved children's book for good reason. Our 2 and 4 year old love its simple, rhythmic text and charming illustrations. It's fun to read aloud and sparks the imagination. A must-have for any child's library.

Quick as a Cricket builds confidence
I spent many hours reading this book to my son. The book is full of wonderful illustrations of animals. But, the content of the book feeds a child's imagination and confidence, page after page is full of statements such as " I am as big as a whale. I am as sly as a fox," etc. You cannot help but smile each time as you read it and see a child's face explode with the possibilities of life. My recent purchase was for a baby shower gift, where guests were asked to bring a favorite book to help establish the new little one's library. I didn't hesitate or think about any other titles. This book should be a staple for any child and will bring hours of enjoyment. Also, the type is large enough that it is easy for a child to recognize letters and for a grandparent to easily read.

A special gem
This is a great book about valuing our uniqueness. I used it to teach a lesson on similes with the children writing simile poems. My class loved it, and so did I! This is definitely one that I will use again and again.

Loved by 2 year old and Parents
The illustrations of this book is what makes it special. They're captivating, beautiful, and fun. It's also a good way to teach opposites (big/small, fast/slow, etc.). I like it because it lets us talk about how sometimes we can be or feel different, depending on the day. My son loves the animals.

beautiful book
It's a beautiful book. Very simple story. The girl is compering herself to different kinds of animals: "I am as quick as a cricket. I am as slow as a snail" etc. The pictures are wonderful. Not only kids but also parents will enjoy it!!!!!!!
