Tales of Legendia Review
I had the pleasure of owning three copies of this game since it came out. I enjoyed it so much that my disc would always end up scratched beyond repair and the game wouldn't load anymore so I had to purchase another copy. The game's design is unique for the series and in some ways revolutionary for it. The characters were well thought out and well voiced. The story developed at a good pace in a beautiful way. I could not be more pleased. The soundtrack is amazing. The combat is fun even though the enemies are usually some very funny looking monsters (even by Tales of standards). Chloe, Moses, Jay, and Shirley are especially fun to play as. My two complaints about this game are the lack of voice acting in the character quests and the amount of time it takes to escape from battles. I won't hold that against the game though. 5 stars for sure!

A tales game not quite like a Tales of title, but a interesting and fun play of it's own.
Tales of Legendia.....I got my copy new as promised by Amazon, so I am pleased about that. I played this titile years ago as a rental, and I got to say, the one thing I strongly remember was the music. Not to mention the talking otters :P Also that the game used a battle field setup more accustom to earlier titles (2d field with running side to side instead of open field like Tales of Symphonia) and that you could throw enemies. However, this game can be tedious at time when you have to backtrack, so some people could be turned off by that. The sprites walking animation can also be annoying to some people, but I found myself not realising this particular aspect as I continued playing. The story has golden moments, but the real strong point of this is the character development, which is a focus in this title.Overall, I hesitated to buy this, but I do not regret it. If you are willing to try something not quite the astonishing RPG but what makes up in heart and excellent captivating music (favorite mention "Ancient Ship"), give it a go!

Definitely worth the play
This is one of the tales games that’s often slept on, but is definitely a great game in its own right. The story is beautiful, the cinematics were way ahead of its time, and the character antics are hilarious. I Highly recommend this game.

Doesn't live up to the rest of the Tales series.
I purchased Tales of Legendia because I am a MAJOR fan of Tales of Symphonia, but I was really disappointed with this Tales game.Characters: Main PartySenel Coolidge: Main maleShirley Fennes: Main FemaleChloe Valens: female knight from the disgraced Valens familyWill Raynard: Sheriff/Historian who was exiled from the mainlandNorma Beatty: Treasure HunterMoses Sandor: Bandit/Beast tamerGrune: Unknown/SummonerJay: Information DealerTales of Legendia is the story of Senel Coolidge and Shirley Fennes as they land on the giant floating ship called the Legacy. Because Shirley is the Merines they are being persued by many enemies. The game follows any standard RPG: tragedy, meet group, fight enemy, twist in story, save the world. I found that I couldn't get into the plot because I disliked so many of the characters.Graphics: In terms of game play the graphics are great. Like any Tales game, the levels are rich in color and very detailed. There's a wide array of monsters to fight and the character designs are very pretty and original.Music: Very nice. I liked the soundtrack of Tales of Legendia so much that I looked to buy the CD. Each level has a different, but unique sound that never really gets annoying.Voiceovers: While it doesn't quite match up with Symphonia's voice quality, Tales of Legendia has a fairly decent cast of voice actors. Though some of the bosses tend to grate on my nerves.Gameplay: The gameplay is very typical of a Tales game. As long as you level up accordingly, you can pretty much beat the game by hack and slash. While some of the stronger bosses require some attention to strategy, most other enemies do not. Like with Symphonia, Legendia has four main party characters to a battle. The first slot is Player 1's contol. Most melee characters are fairly easy to control, but Senel and Chloe are by far the easiest.Plot: The plot is basically the plot to save the world despite all the twists along the way. Senel and his group spend a large majority of the time trying to rescue Shirley from captivity. Once the first half of the game is completed, the story then shifts to a mysterious being appearing all over the Legacy and mutating monsters. Each character's back story is told in the second half of the game. I was not very fond of the plot. First, it wasn't very compelling and it wasn't anything I hadn't seen before. The puzzles were often times pointless and I was irritated that the synopsis failed to tell you where to go next. Because I have a busy schedule I would have to take time away from the game and when I started playing I had to figure out on my own where to go next because all that's provided is a tiny skit at the beginning of a certain mission.Characters: I had a hard time relating to the characters. Senel in the game seems to foster loyalty in all his teammates, but I am unable to see why. He basically abandons every single one of his party members at the beginning of the game, even the woman he is sworn to protect. He's not nearly as endearing as Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia. He seems to get better as the game progresses, but I still did not like him.I was surprised at how likeable some of the characters were, however. Norma was one of my favorites because she is feisty and follows her own path. I liked Will as well, but that is just my affinity for Raine type characters.Overall, some of the characters I could stand behind, but most were just plain annoying.General: There were some good points in this game, mainly the music and graphics, but they were severely overshadowed by the problems. Most of the characters were not likable on a fundamental level, the plot was sub par, there were no improvements to the battle style, and the synopsis was very poorly done. Once the first half of the game was over, I felt no need to continue, because it seemed to me the story had tied up all the loose ends. Instead, a completely new enemy appears and players are dragged through the back stories of each of the characters. While the general idea is a good one, I found the actual execution pointless.I give Tales of Legendia a 2 out of 5, because on the whole it was subpar compared to the other, much better, Tales series. I do not recommend wasting your time on this, unless you are insanely interested in the series.

Good story, but repetitive combat
I am about 10 hours into this game and doubt I am going finish it. So what is the problem? Why is it boring for me? The combat. I was extremely excited when I found out that there is a combo system within the combat. When I learned how to do the combos I realized that there is no depth in it at all. You connect 3 different moves and that's it? Why can't I connect 5? Why can't I mash moves together and accidentaly discover a great 6 hit combo? No, you use your regular attack, then any base skill, then any higher level skill. I was siked! It's boring and it has no depth. Besides the weak "combo system", combat is nothing more than button mashing. When you are not using your skills with the main character, Senel, you are doing nothing more than hitting the same basic 3 hit combo by pressing your attack button 3 times. Boring and repetitive! Sure it is nice to have real time hack and slash battles in an RPG, but at least make it fun and innovative! I saw the same thing already in Tales of Phantasia and I was not pleased with that game either. Sigh. The story is interesting and may be the only reason for me to play this game. The combat does not impress! I will try to finish this game, but doubt I will. It's becoming a chore to play, but at the same time I can understand why other people may like it. I am just not as patient and forgiving as other players. It's a cheap buy, so buy it if you want; you may like it.

It doesn't play on any of my systems. Strangely ...
It doesn't play on any of my systems. Strangely there are no scratches, and I have multiple ps2s. Every one that I put it in, it never plays. All of my other old scratched up games work! Why won't this one?
