Platinum Series - Year of the Horse - MP-10 Optimus Prime

Arrived earlier than I expected and in excellent condition! I finally have my first Masterpiece Transformer.😎

This is a fantastic toy. The articulation is amazing. The transformation is intuitive. The whole thing thing feels solid. Solid in robot and vehicle mode. All the rubber tires are firmly on the ground when properly transformed. The deep red and blue is very nice. Alas the only thing I didn't like are the gold pieces. I just can't ignore it.

for thew price i love this figure. Definitely masterpiece quality. No need to spend over $300 dollars for the more expensive Mp10.

I'll admit that the first time I saw this Optimus online I was not immediately impressed with the color palette. In other words, the gold did not excite me right away. This was a figure that eventually grew on me though. I now have 2 of these figures, one to keep sealed and one to display. If you like the MP10 mold and want a less expensive version then give this guy a 2nd look. Packaging: Very well done with a nice large box and clean graphics. It is easy to see Optimus through the plastic simply by opening the large cardboard flap on the front of the box. The only miss is that the left side of the box is warped, presumably from the glue. This is common on most boxes I have seen online and in stores. Because of this, I give packaging a 3.5 Optimus Review: Upon opening this item I found Optimus to be of pretty nice quality. The robot form of the MP10 mold is simply stunning. The left shoulder on mine feels a bit loose but nothing major. He still holds his poses well. The index finger also popped off when fitting him with his gun. It pops right back on but be careful not to lose it! Otherwise, he is very stable with large, firm feet... and with all his nicely ratcheted joints he can be posed in many realistic battle positions. Paint applications are clean and accurately applied. Another thing, the gold looks better in person than in pics. I really like the transparent red on this forearms and waist. As others have commented, I love the black face with the bright blue eyes... nice touch! The black on the sides of his waist and elbows make him looks trim and mean. The overall fit and assembly appear to also be top notch so no complaints here. Finally, the rubber wheels are nice as long as they do not crack with time. Overall I give the figure a 4 Trailer Review: This is actually better quality than I expected. The plastic feels solid, heavy and quite sturdy with a very slight hint of an almost rubbery texture. If you tap it lightly with your finger you will know what I mean... kind of cool. The trailer opens and closes firmly. I think the clear plastic is unique and offers a nice change from the norm. The side and front trailer supports swivel/pull out nicely. The clear look of the trailer is accented nicely with the minimalist raised side logos and crystal blue interior accents. The large rear painted logo is also applied nicely. I also give the trailer a 4 Accessories: The gun is a nice deep golden color... not the boring black or gray as usually included. The Axe is a nice crystal blue color. Again, this was a nice touch. The matrix is nice metal die cast with the bright gold coloring. I actually prefer to place the matrix in the cockpit of the repair vehicle for easy viewing and quick access. Again the included accessories receive a positive review and another 4 rating. (Hmmm... but WHERE IS ROLLER?) I have found that not all Masterpiece figures are created equally (i.e.: the new Starscream and to an extent the new Soundwave) but this one is a winner! I think it is underrated but that may lead to it being a better collectible in the future. Overall 3.75 to 4 stars because of the warped box, index finger that can pop off easily, and no roller. 10X better than MP-10. I love hime and his clear trailer!!! And better matrix of leadership. No annoying human figure.

This is a great version of the MP-10 Optimus Prime, but your mileage may vary. It depends on how much it will bother you that he has a unique color palette, not representing any previous comic, cartoon, or toy incarnation. So far I have not found any pictures that really do him justice, because he looks much nicer in-person. The gold chrome does not look as garish in hand. His darker reds, blues and blacks mix well. I especially like that his face is painted black to help the bright blue eyes pop. Ultimately he is a very cool looking version. I'm not a huge fan of the clear trailer. I wish it were either a dark gray (color of his thighs) or gold, but it's not awful. The one thing that does bother me is that he does not come with roller. A crystal blue roller would have been a great addition and he feels like he is missing something without him. That's the only reason he gets 4 stars from me and not 5. This is a shared exclusive figure carried by Big Bad Toy Store and Toys R Us, so I would recommend checking their websites first for the best price.
