First time ever used...great bags.
I used the bags to store flour and rice. Had no problem sealing them with an iron. Reviewed videos to find best method to add ingredients to bags, since they don't stand on their own, and seal. Bags held up and stored in bucket without tearing. They appear to be durable and easy to use, once you get the hang of pouring ingredients in bag. The oxygen absorbers started working really fast, so know your game plan before opening the package. After adding the absorbers and sealing the bags, the next day it was obvious they had worked. All 15 bags showed signs that oxygen had been removed, just like I had vacuum sealed them. Would buy again and do recommend.

These have come in handy when we got a whole ...
These have come in handy when we got a whole lot of 50 lb bags of rice in at one time. We were able to get the rice stored in these 1 gallon bags, with oxygen absorbers and stored in an airtight container, for future use. This way, we do not have to worry about bugs, mice or anything else trying to get into our food and eating it before we do. Mylar bagging has opened our eyes to a whole new world of storing food. We feel 1) it isn't anymore time consuming, 2) it really doesn't take up anymore space, 3) your food stores for a longer period of time and 4) if you have to move it is a lot easier to pack and store. We found this out when we first was introduced to mylar bagging from our friends. They were just retiring from the military and they showed us how they had mylar bagged this food from years ago, how it had been stored in a container and how many times it had been moved, obviously with him being in the military. It was very interesting to see how much food was put in the bags, sealed up and then stored in that air tight container. I looked at that container full of food and thought there is no way that a person could possibly can all of that food in jars and have to move all of the time. I can understand why he and his wife mylar bagged so much of their food and did not can. Just packing and unpacking the jars every time they moved would be enough to make someone want to mylar bag, but me worrying about those jars breaking would have made me ill, thinking about all of the time and money I had put into the canning process. Mylar bagging is a wonderful way of food processing.

Perfect size!
I purchased these when I saw they had gone down in price - less than $25.00 - for 50 of each. I couldn't pass it up. Am so glad that I didn't! OakTea was who I received mine from and I have to say, super fast shipping and everything was in order, and the shipping price of 1 cent, couldn't be beat! I love this sized bag, it is perfect for making up smaller portions. I can easily fit 12 1/2 cups of hard white wheat inside, oxygen absorbers and have room to seal edge with iron. I don't have a vacuum saver, so I use the side of an aluminum box level with my iron (turn OFF steam) set on med-high. It gives the perfect sized seal. (Just an F.Y.I. - 12 1/2 cups of wheat equals a little over 5.5 lbs - which means, you can just grab a bag and refill your #10 can that you use on daily basis, which is what I do.) I was able to fit 13 cups of rolled oats, with plenty of room for the sealing. No problems. I even did up a couple bags into smaller bags for my flax seed by making a seal down the horizontal middle of bag, sealing the open edge, cutting smack in middle of horizontal seal that I made (my box level is 1" wide), snipping off ends of vertical side, then filling as I would a full gallon bag, just smaller portions. Works fantastic! :o) I have to say, I'm very pleased, the bags work like they are supposed to and the oxygen absorbers **have done their job as well. (**See update below) Can't beat that. I added some pictures to main image to show how they work in tandem.) :o) Edited: August 23, 2010: (Update - you 'may' need to use more than 1 of the oxygen absorbers that comes in this set for the bags. The instructions that come on the absorbers state: Use 1 per 10"x14" Mylar Bag. I had to use anywhere from 3 to 5 per gallon and 2 to 3 for my smaller 1/2 bags that I made.)

Great Mylar Bags (shipped in perfect condition)
Great product that shipped quicker than expected. I used the advice of a video I saw on youtube and put these mylar bags inside vacuum seal bags. Using that combination with an oxygen absorber inside the bag, they should keep for quite a while. Might be dumb advice on my part, but remember to package DRY foods for long term storage. The whole point being to eliminate oxygen or water so bacteria can not form. Also the oxygen absorbers are shipped in a single vacuum sealed container (obviously to preserve)...so you may want to have some sort of way to seal it back up if you don't plan on using all 50 at once. This is the video that I watched: [...] He says an oxygen absorber is not needed...but I put one in just in case because I bought the cheapest vacuum sealer I could find. Sometimes I can not get the vacuum sealer to seal through both the plastic and mylar...but have had no success on vacuum sealing the mylar by itself. Hope this helps anyone preparing for a rainy day. Take care all.

Not satified.
Bags not heavy enough and some of my products started to rehydrate.

fine, but we seal our product in a clear ...
this work well however, you can not vacuum seal mylar, only seal it. If that works for you, fine, but we seal our product in a clear vacuum seal bag first with 300-600cc of the oxy-sorb and then, seal it in the mylar. The shelf life now, is 20-25 years vs. 1-3 in just the clear vacuum seal bag. A final note. There are enough oxy-sorb tabs for two per bag so if you are following the math, you'll need to order extra and, once you open the bag of oxy-sorb, you have to use them in that sealing process as them begin immediately to absorb moisture and will become very hot and, useless if left too long between uses without sealing them in a product bag.
