I love these hats! I don't use them for costuming, of course. I have very fair skin and live in Florida. I have a garden, and love to wear this hat because it keeps the sun off so well. It also keeps the rain off very nicely, if you don't mind getting the ends of your shoulders wet. I wear it for practical reasons, but I also get lots of compliments when I wear it out and about. People seem to think it's very stylish. I like the inside woven crown because it keeps the hat ventilated. I tried wearing an Amish hat before I got this one that almost cooked my head! No problems with this hat, and my first one lasted over a year with constant use, even through very rainy summers. The only thing that is slightly questionable - it comes with a warning label that says, "Not for children 12 or under." I can't think why, unless it's because of the bead choking hazard, or something toxic in the varnish.

This hat is great. Not a flimsy costume hat at all. There is no wonder that people have been using hats like this for centuries in Asia. The hat has a basket underneath, so your head never touches the cone. That way, no matter how much sun hits the hat, the heat is never transferred to your head. Also, air flows all over the surface of your head cooling you more. My only complaint is the name of the product. People have gotten upset with me for calling it a "coolie" hat. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the word coolie is a derogatory racial slur for Asians. Now I call it an Asian field worker's hat.

Works really welll. Actually cooler than any of my lifeguard sun hats. I wear for construction in the hot weather and air actually gets between your head and the hat and cools further. Envy of all my co-workers. Heavy duty as you could possibly make it.

I use it when mowing the lawn. Yeah, do you look ridiculous, sure...but hey, I'm Filipino so it looks normal. But seriously, the shape allows for good air flow and keeps the sun off of you. Better than any ball cap.

This hat is solid, sturdy, and well made. I think it will stand many years of use in the garden. The only shortcoming is the material of the chin strap, which will probably wear out long before the hat, but is easily replaced.If you are bald or balding, you will probably want to wear a light head cloth with it, as the internal suspension is quite stiff and hard on a bare scalp.We bought two, and are utterly delighted with them. Well worth the price.

Not as wide as expected so not the greatest for the summer. But the part of your face that is covered is well shaded. Pricey for what you get. You're better off sourcing the real thing.
