I knew in under a minute that I would NOT be returning this item...
For realz, I ran this thing for less than a minute in my hot tub- getting into the main spot where all the buildup was and it worked way better than expected. I took apart the filter head and all the sediment that had built up and I have worried about for 2+ years was there. The filter bag's material seemed to make it even easier to clean it out. Just by emptying it and giving it a few taps to bang out the excess, the sediment came out. Just had to hit it quickly with the hose and it was good. A little later (once I actually opened and looked at the instructions), I got a BONUS that I did not count on. It comes with 2 microfiber bags that fit inside the original bag. I decided to see what IT could do. I had a buildup of shock powder in my hot tub and after thorough cleaning of the floor and steps, the bags picked huge amounts of the powder. I was amazed at how much it got. I will say that this is one of the best purchases of a tool I have ever made!!! I judge that on the product getting the job done with efficiency. If you have a hot tub, you know that the regular pool cleaner will not fit and be effective unless the tub is extremely large. This tool will be your friend. It is a very simple tool and the instructions are just really three pages, mostly with images and short descriptions of them. The unit consists of three pieces and a simple twist-on-for-power design. Like I said, I knew immediately that I would be keeping this item. I usually keep boxes and packaging when I buy something this size, but there was absolutely no reason to keep this box. A MUST HAVE FOR HOT TUB OWNERS. I would think it would work in the pool especially on my steps. I will try that next and that would be a big plus if it did. I am already sold on how it works. I was skeptical because when I first turned it on, I could not feel much suction. I guess it needs to be fully immersed to work properly. Very satisfied customer and if the company reads comments... good job guys!!! I will by more products when the need arrives. Thank you.

Great little unit
Our in-ground "spool" is 2,000 gallons. We bought a conventional suction powered vacuum but its a pain to set up for just a bit of sand. The pool blaster takes a few seconds to suck up the crud and we're ready for pool fun! The old vacuum hasn't been out in weeks. We bought the finer sand filter as there is a lot of construction around us and everything is always getting dusty - the sand filter works great. Update (5 years later) : still going strong! I finally had occasion to dismantle the motor and yes they corrected the design, the shaft and hub have a flat side to keep the impeller turning with the motor. I took it apart because water had gotten in and the motor rusted a bit. Wd40 and slight encouragement freed it. It rusted because it was put away improperly. Always store handle up, motor down so any errant water runs away from the motor. Update (year later): Water Tech sent me a new head unit which has been working fine for a year now. We run it 3 or 4 times a week for 10 minutes. I have not taken the new one apart to see if its construction is better than the original, but no problems to date and it works very well. Updating my rating from 2 to 4 stars. Now, if they just made a robot version... Update (after two months): It no longer picks up anything. The motor runs but the impeller does not turn. I opened the unit and discovered that the brass hub inside the large gear has a crack from one end to the other. I suspect that the hub is supposed to be a press fit onto the impeller shaft, but now it turns freely and the impeller does not move. I believe this is a fundamental design flaw in an otherwise great product. The gear should be secured to the shaft with a key/slot, set screw or even a cotter pin! I have emailed the company to see if they have an updated design and will advise here what I find, but in the mean time I would hold off buying.

Great idea, very poor implementation
I have a gunite pool with a small "spa" section that is always hard to clean because it doesn't have it's own skimmer and it is too small for my automatic pool cleaner. So I would typically manually vacuum it once in a while to pick up small debris from the bottom which works very well of course, but takes some time and requires vacuum hook-up and big vacuum head is hard to maneuver in a small spa area. I loved the idea of having this broom tool to easily and quickly pick up the sand and small debris without hooking up my hose so I read the reviews and decided to give it a chance. Once thing I have to say - I had no issues with turning it on or off as other mentioned in the reviews, it was easy and worked just fine. But I was so disappointed in the performance of this tool that it had to go back (thank you Amazon for your customer service and return policy). I read the instructions, loaded the broom with fresh batteries, and ventured outside to start my new life with easy spa maintenance. Well, my dreams were quickly shuttered. The tool's sucking power is very small. Granted, I did not expect Dyson performance for 40 dollars and from a few batteries; but I was expecting it to be able to pick small debris, sand, and silt. Instead, it did not have enough power to suck in small debris (small leaves, tiny sticks, etc.) and the supplied bag's mesh was not fine enough to collect sand and silt and I could clearly see the cloud coming from the "gills" right back into the water. I stopped it and made sure that it is assembled correctly and the net is snapped in its place properly (trust me, it is no rocket science) and tried again with the same result. I used the tool for about an hour which basically just gave me cloudy water and after the dust settled back on the bottom I switched right back to my old plan "B" which is vacuuming it with a hose. I took the broom apart and cleaned it per instructions, dried it, and put it back together disappointed. Couple of days later I decided to give it a second chance. Same result but now on top of the broom just scattering the dust around my pool I could also hear some weird noise coming from the motor which leads me to believe that the unit would not last more then a few months. I know that there are more powerful models of this broom made by the same company but after this experience I am afraid to try. Will look for other alternatives.

Nice Product - does what it is supposed to
I bought this in July 2011 and it is used in an Intex 16' round pool. I live in Texas and do not keep my pool covered. It is near a stand of crepe myrtle trees and catches a lot of "stuff" from the trees as well as the usual sand / fine sediment that your filter never seems to catch because it settles on the bottom. This little broom vac actually works pretty well. There is a little filter cup that is made of mesh - this doesn't catch the TINY particles but will grab the leaves and blooms, etc. (I always use a pool rake before I start vacuuming because I don't want to fill up the filter with stuff I could have removed easily manually) and then there's a fine filter (which is acutally LITERALLY a white knee high / sock type thing) that you can put inside the regular filter to catch tiny particles. I ALWAYS use the fine filter. As a matter of fact after mine became torn I just used a ladies trouser sock. Then I discovered TWO trouser socks used together (one inside the other) are even better for the really fine stuff. Then I discovered a small insert of filter medium (that I use in my goldfish pond) made it even better at catching the small stuff. A few points: * This thing isn't a super suction vac nor is it meant to clean the WHOLE POOL. It's mostly for touch ups although I will say I have cleaned the whole pool many, many times and it does work well if you're patient. You have to move slowly and steadily to clean up the areas where you have issues. * When you lift this thing out - you need to hold it with the handle up, put your hand over the cleaning head and get it over the side ASAP. Otherwise the stuff you just removed runs right back into your pool. * The battery life is actually pretty good but being battery operated is a bit of a con for me. I just hate to buy batteries and wish it was rechargeable. I've read so many reviews about how difficult it is to turn off and on - I just don't get that. Pretty simple mechanism. Of course as previously stated - I'm from Texas. We don't get bamboozled too easily. :-) All in all - if you have an above ground pool on the smaller side, or a hot tub / spa and are looking for a super inexpensive vac that does work - I think this is a good product for you to try.

works good but doesnt last in salt water pools!
i bought this and was very pleased with the price, shipping was fast etc. it was very easy to use and i had no trouble turning it on or off unlike other reviews said. i did notice that when cleaning it out it can be a little tricky to pop off the filter / front. Also keep in mind that you should take it out of the pool while its still on and then cut it off to empty it, otherwise it will dump debris back into your pool and even if you DO take it out of the water first it still has a tendency to do this, just not as bad. over all i liked it and it helped me keep the pool very clean even after a birthday party of over 10 kids in my pool or at any given moment.. ( all the kids on my street come here and swim ) the issue i have with it though is that it doesnt always pick up sand or dirt and you have to have it at a very specific angle for it to work good.. it can get clogged pretty easily so you have to dump it often.. batteries last long in it though, actually longer than the broom itself! my biggest con with it however is that it simply doesnt last in salt water pools. i have an intex saltwater system and their new sand filter system.. i bought this at the same time and at first loved it and used my pool constantly but after about 1 1/2 months the broom was completely corroded inside.. and will no longer work. i'm guessing this is due to the salt in my pool, not sure though. over all a great product but saltwater pool owners beware! it wont last long for you!

Works Great
Works great. I was a little worried at first- didn't seem to have much power, but once under the water it really sucks up the leaves, dirt from our jacuzzi. Size is great for storage.

Started out great and it ended great! Great vacuum for the money.
I want to return this for a new one. This vacuum worked great in the first 3 weeks, and then the gaskets seemed to just loosen and weaken and then water damage occurs even if they are all in place. I want to say its a great product but that just depends on the action the company takes to make things right. I would like to replace mine and give a fair review in case I just got a dud ring gasket. I will continue this review once I have answers. So now I'm here to tell you this company water tech, is awesome. I showed my receipt they replace the product completely. I got excellent customer service and fast response. I really like this vacuum. For what you pay for it's pretty powerful even though it's on battery. But what I really liked the most was that the company responded quickly and efficiently! So now I can tell you it started out great and it ended great! Great vacuum for the money.
