The wood is unfinished and can be stained, painted, or coated with protective finishes.
5 Pack Basswood Sheets for Crafts,12"x12"x1/12 2mm Thick Plywood Sheets with Smooth Surfaces-Unfinished Squares Wood Boards for Laser Cutting, Wood Burning, Architectural Models, Staining First impressions: Nice set of 5 sheets of thin plywood sheets. The sheets have few blemishes, and are easy to cut with my laser. The wood is unfinished and can be stained, painted, or coated with protective finishes. Installation/setup: Use to make small projects with your laser or other cutting machine. Final thoughts: I used these plywood sheets with my diode laser to make some patterns I found on etsy. The wood cut easily and had nice defined edges. I made a wooden purse with several pieces then used acrylic paints to decorate it and then sealed it with polyurethane. The wood was then lined with thin leather to give it more durability. I like this wood and I’m glad I got it. ⭐️1 star - I don't recommend it at all, poor quality. ⭐️⭐️ 2 stars - I don't recommend it, it has multiple faults, or a very high price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3 stars - It's passable, It has some faults but the quality is ok for what it is. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 stars - Product quite acceptable, it does what it promises. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars - Product that I totally recommend.

Mostly flat, lasers well
I have a rule that I only buy basswood sheets in larger quantities because the weight helps keep them flat. For a small batch of 5, these are mostly flat. They cut evenly with my 10w and 48w diode lasers. For small pieces, these will work fine. For projects that need larger flat pieces, these will mostly work. Of the 5 sheets, I only had one that was too badly warped for use in anything that isn't going to be firmly glued down. I didn't have any issues with chipping or separation. The boards are smooth. The thickness is fairly uniform with not enough variation to be noticeable.

Advanced crafting
If you want to take your crafting to the next level, wood items are a great place to start. At roughly $2 a sheet, these are a great way to expand a maker journey. Size is pretty straight forward - 1 square foot (or see banana for scale). With modern cutting software you can get a lot of stuff out of that foot. Alternately you could use a hand cutter like Dremel or a fine jigsaw though both of those may cause splintering. When I ordered this I was mentally thinking balsa wood but this is true plywood, just on a micro scale. If you look closely at the picture you can see the layers in the wood. The outer layer is no different than the outer layer on its bigger cousins and presents a "hard wood" appearance. I had originally planned to use a Brother Scan N Cut with this but I need to poll the Brother community first since the specifications say balsa. In the mean time my local library has a laser cutter/engraver in their maker room. Now all I need are some ideas! Note that this is truly unfinished wood. It will need paint/stain/sealer to keep it looking nice long term. Really nice product at a good price.

Good quality, very happy with this product
I am including a photo of the pack of boards I received after I had removed the outer plastic shrink wrap. I was happy to see that the sheets were smooth and good quality, as described. Each of the 5 wooden sheets are made from joining different pieces of wood together, but when I looked at them, I had a hard time seeing where two panels were joined on most of the sides. The photo shows a side where the division is much more obvious than in most of the sheets. There are a few knots in the wood and a couple of black specks, but nothing that looks bad. Overall, it's just the look of natural wood of a good quality. I got ours to both use with a laser engraver and to do some hand woodburning with. There may be one of two sides that I would pass over for woodburning, but there is no sheet that would be unsuitable for artwork on one side or the other. I'm very happy with these and have no complaints.

Good quality
I recently got my hands on a 5 pack of basswood sheets, measuring 12"x12" and about 2mm thick, and I have to say, I’m pretty impressed! These plywood sheets have smooth surfaces, which makes them perfect for various projects. I used them for laser cutting and wood burning, and the results were just what I hoped for. The wood handled the laser beautifully, with clean edges and very little charring, which is a big win in my book. Plus, when I tried some staining on a couple of the sheets, the wood absorbed the stain evenly, bringing out a lovely natural finish. What I really appreciated was how lightweight yet sturdy these sheets are. They’re easy to work with, whether you’re making architectural models or tackling some other crafty endeavors. They came in pristine condition, and it was nice to have a set of unfinished squares to really let my creativity shine without any pre-existing designs to interfere with my vision. Overall, I’d definitely recommend these basswood sheets to anyone looking to dive into some creative projects. They’ve become a staple in my crafting toolkit, and I’m excited to explore even more ideas with them!

Great product for beginners and hobbyists
Overall, this is a good value for beginners. I would not say this is great quality but for small crafts for beginners or kids this is an awesome and affordable starting place. I got a little fraying when we used our skill saw but we got improved results with a sharp knife though it took quite a bit longer. When it was all said and done though the kids were very happy with their projects and this wood has taken paint and embellishments very well. The price is perfect for the hobby crafter, and I would imagine that this is an excellent product if you have a laser cutter.
