Mellows the Whiskey and Safe for Your Clumsy Friends
These charred wooden drinking glasses give the impression they were completely handmade. The two cups are slightly different heights and the sides of one are visibly thicker than the sides of the other. As expected with wood, the grains on each cup are unique. The coloring is slightly different between them, as well, with one being visibly darker than the other. As advertised, the battle axes laser-engraved into the sides of the cups show variations, since they were hand painted. I got the single-sided version of the cups. The cups themselves are solid and nicely weighted to stand upright even if set down on their sides (when empty). With liquid in them they can be set down at a not-insignificant angle and still return to standing upright (I tested this with water and not whiskey, just in case!). I'll be more comfortable serving whiskey to some of my friends in these than standard glass tumblers. Wood is definitely preferred over glass when camping, so these tumblers will be perfect when we are out enjoying nature. They are a bit larger than a standard glass tumbler, so they can sometimes feel a little awkward to hold. I had them slip out of my hands a couple times while washing them. Since they are not easily breakable this wasn't a major concern. The charring within each glass is consistent and highly polished. They do not have any noticeable scent to them, so do not distract from the nose of the spirit. My friend and I tasted both a bourbon and a scotch in them and found they did, indeed, mellow or smooth out the flavor. The stainless steel ice cubes work great; much better than stone ice cubes I've tried in the past. After just a couple minutes in the drink, the temperature dropped about a degree, then 9 degrees in about five to eight minutes, and 17 degrees after 15-20 minutes. These wooden whiskey glasses are a good choice anytime for the effect they have on the taste of the bourbon, but are an even better choice when you'll be enjoying your favorite spirit outdoors and don't want to risk breaking a glass tumbler. This set is a bit pricey, and while I don't believe the battle axes painted on the sides are worth the higher cost, the stainless steel ice cubes are a nice touch and do add some value. There is a coupon currently available that makes them a good bargain.

Unique and Gimmicky, But Great for Casual Sipping
I was immediately drawn to this set of two charred wooden bourbon glasses. They certainly have a unique, rustic, and "Viking cup" aesthetic that sets them apart from standard glassware. If you are looking for a gift or a conversational piece, this fits the bill perfectly. What I Liked: Aesthetics: They truly look like miniature charred barrels. The craftsmanship is decent, and the single-sided color painting adds a nice touch of rustic color (mine had a faint orange/brown tone). Novelty Factor: They make a great, fun gift for a whiskey lover, dad, or brother who already has everything. They are definitely a talking point when guests are over. Hand Feel: They are comfortable and lightweight to hold, and the 11oz size is good for an Old Fashioned or a generous neat pour. What to Consider: Temperature: Because they are wood, they do not hold the chill of the drink or ice for very long. If you are a serious whiskey connoisseur who values temperature control and clarity, this might not replace your crystal tumblers. Cleaning: Hand-washing is, of course, a must, and you have to be careful to dry them quickly to prevent any damage to the wood or finish. Flavor Impact (Minor): I noticed a very slight woody/charred influence on the taste of the first couple of drinks I had in them. It wasn't unpleasant, just different from a glass tumbler. Final Verdict This is a fun, handcrafted set that is more of a novelty or casual sipping cup than a high-end whiskey glass. If you treat them like a "Viking Mug" for your bourbon or an Old Fashioned, you will be happy. As a gift, they are fantastic and memorable.

Good looking and a usable conversation piece.
Saved these as a gift to myself. recently used them at a dinner party and guests thought they were cool, like i did. The metal ice cubes are good, they will last 1 drink if the beverage is not cold already. maybe 2 if the drink starts cold. The inside is not a true charred wood, but it looks like it. so no worry about it changing the taste of your drink. I did drop one out of the cupboard and it has nothing more than a scratch. glass one would have broken for sure. It is a little different drinking from a wooden cup. but cool.
